An Indian-origin doctor Dr. Onkar Singh Sahota of the Labour party scored a major upset after narrowly winning the Ealing and Hillingdon seat beating the former Conservative Deputy Mayor of London Mr Richard Barnes, in the Assembly elections. 2. Philip Abraham, an Indian journalist from Kerala , has been elected as a councillor in the UK, becoming the first person of Asian origin to be elected to the Loughton town council.
